Oh I think its more than a difficult position.

Given the political history of Pakistani presidents, I think he's toast....and he knows it too.

I agree with you, the balance of power will be significantly altered in the region. With China already threatened by US, I believe it would be a grave mistake on the part of US to pressure Pakistan to comply in any way....it would create Eastern and Western blocs again, like the old Cold War era...

But such is modern day politics....short sighted, needing instant gratification...

* Just noticed the part about introductions on the thread header. I have lived in Middle East for 9 years between 87-95 inclusive. Lived in Asia too.
