Per and all,
The 16S-42W refers to Township 16 South, Range 42 West of the Sixth Principal Meridian. This is the Initial Point for the Rectangular Survey Systems for parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The Coordinates of this initial point are Latitude 40ø00'07" North and Longitude 97ø22'08" West. Since each township is 6 miles+- x 6 miles+-, this indicates that T-16-S, R-42-W is approximately 96 miles south and 252 miles west of said initial point. I believe you are correct in your assumption that something is tampered with, because 43W should be to the left of 42W etc... I don't have a County Map book of Colo., If someone has one, it should be labeled with Sections, Townships and Ranges, which would give us and exact location. I will try to get a Colorado Red Book, which has every county labeled with Section, Twp. and Range. Also, any pilots with Colorado area sectionals have access to Lat/Long. Hope this helps
