I am going because as Buddhist and a true believer in the nobility of human spirit, I despise the suffering and believe in cultivating compassion. The event should help.

Although I am not that old, I have lived through two wars, one revolution, two military coup d'eta (one failed the other succeeded). I've also lived in many parts of the world and seen the suffering (and the point of view) of those involved. I have watched the Afghans in mass exudos, only to fall prey to those who used them as pawns. I have seen a farmer sit down and cry over the death of his only means of livelihood, his cow. And I have looked into the shell shocked faces of children who've lost every family they had. I have also had the privilege of a most unpleasant deed; comforting someone who lost a husband in the WTC, and spending the night with another who was without home due to its proximity to WTC.

I don't like what I've seen and I don't want it take place *anywhere*. Those who look forward to war, should first spend a year with its victims. When I say that our only path is cultivation of compassion and self education, it is an opinion based on much experience and analysis.

all the best,
ST
