It is of much interest to me how far, how fast, and when the dollar may decline. I can't decide if our recent catastrophe will lessen faith the dollar, or whether there will be a kind of rallying around America as an embattled fortress.

From a couple of casual contacts, I do gather that Europenas are thinking of their continent as a much safer place than ours right now.

Any theories or historical precedents for what takes the dollar up or down?

About ten years ago I had the pleasant experience of spending some Swiss Franc travelers checks that had appreciated about 25% against the dollar, but I never understood why.
