If Jerry Falwell returns to the theme of penance in the future, I would suggest this modification:
God permits evil in the world, and it strikes both the just and the unjust. However, when we call upon Him for aid, it is wise to renounce our sins, insofar as possible, not only as individuals, but as a society. How can we beseech His help against evil if we perpetrate it ourselves? How can we be faithful, and not at least try to please Him? The ways of God are mysterious, and even Job, a righteous man, was beset with ills, to test his faith. But God is Just, and it stands to reason that our efforts to be good count when we ask for His aid, and our unresisted sinfulness is considered as well. In the end, it has to be better to seek Him and His ways....... |
