In either case, someone's ox is gored. Why should those of faith be deprived of normal expression of their sentiments, because someone doesn't like it? It is merely a form of censorship, because one doesn't like some public expression.......

I seem to recall that you were arguing the other day that people should stifle their sentiments that could be offensive to Muslims. This war has religious overtones. Anything that compartmentalizes us on a religious basis is problematic. Karen P.S. I shall be leaving shortly for a lunch outing. Back in a few hours.

You seemed to be saying that there might be grounds for depriving people of faith of the normal expression of their sentiments. Then, you seemed to say that any public display of religious faith was at least problematic. Then you seemed to be dismissing the idea that Christians could be harassed, in this country, by the negative reaction of others to their public displays of faith. Finally, you said that you could accept my points pragmatically, but seeemed to continue to reject the idea that those who deplore public displays of religious sentiment might be in the wrong. So I constructed a little story to show how it might be more than impractical to restrain public displays, it might be out and out wrong |
