I also heard that India offered land for a staging area to the US.This was offered quickly after the tragedy occurred. Pakistan may have agreed to help because it didn't want to be upstaged by India and now had found itself inside a trap. One remembers that India and Pakistan tested nuclear bombs at times very close to one another. One cannot let the other be too far ahead. They are constantly in a battle of egos.
