Tim Re..http://www.townhall.com/columnists/paulgreenberg/printpg20010917.shtml. Does a columnist still have to point out that we only play the terrorists' game when we start badmouthing our Muslim neighbors, or innocent students from Arab lands who have come here only to study and make a contribution to life, or Muslims around the world, or Islam in general?
So I hadn't spoken up. Not at any length, not till now. Not till I heard the good doctor say something over the phone that struck me anew, even though I'd known it a long time:
It's important, he said, to say something about how Muslims are as shocked and concerned as everybody else by this sneak attack, this crime and abomination. It's important because of the children.
Tim, nice words but shouldn't the Muslims in this country be asking the head Clerics in Muslim; or whoever takes the place of the pope; to denounce Bin Ladens's actions as murder rather than a holy war. If Muslims really are against this, why not at least protest against Bin Ladens actions. Why, when we see crowds in Pakistan, there only are Laden's supporters? Why aren't we seeing the Muslims who are against this? Why haven't we seen the clerics denouncing this as murder. Aren't there rules as to who can start a holy war. Can Bin Laden declare a holy war; shouldn't it be that only the clerics can declare a holy war and then the rest of the Muslims follow blindly.
The Muslims are letting their religion be thrashed, and they are letting Bin Laden give us reasons to wipe their families out. The Muslim religion itself could stop this, if the clerics started denouncing Bin Laden and condemning people who support violent actions. Quit worrying about stopping discrimination in this country; if you don't stop Bin Laden things will be much worse. |
