More accurately, SOME people in the Middle East favor Afghanistan. One can find mob thinking in Baghdad, Damascus, Cairo, Teheran, and Karachi, but I doubt if this kind of thinking and behavior is even a majority, and certainly not the ENTIRE population. The extremists are vocal, but generally outnumbered by those who either oppose violence or want to be left alone.

The fact that the Taliban are, as you say, a different breed, not likely to surrender, is probably true. In other words, surrender is not a viable strategy; neutralize is the more likely outcome.

We aren't very good at infiltration, but there are many thousands of refugees now living outside Afghanistan . . .
