I've narrowed it down to 2 possibilities. I'd love getting feedback on this analysis.

I configured the Dell 8100 and the Compaq 1800 as similarly as possible. The Dell 8100 would cost $2150 and the Compaq $1750.

The Dell has the advantage of better support reputation and the G-Force 2 Card (16mb) over the Compaq's ATI Rage (16mb). The Compaq has much better sound, its design makes typing more comfortable for me, and it's $350 cheaper. (i'll have to add memory to the Compaq for $50)

Each weighs about the same and I believe are pretty darn comparable in other respects.

I don't really trust the Winbooks and the Thinkpads don't have touchpads.

Any feedback?
