Something else you might use to make up your mind is if either of your choices can be upgraded to Windows 2000. All forms of 98 to me suck, they all lose memory and need to be rebooted all the time. XP sounds so far like just a bloated version of 2000 with a few bells and whistles most of us will never use. Besides Windows OS's always have to be out 6months-year until the SP1 comes out fixing the more common bugs. 2000 with the SP2 runs superstable for me. I'm sure you have a copy of 2000 already from desktop use, so if you can get drivers for the laptop you could fresh install 2000. Ooops, I meant to say, I know you'd buy another copy of W2K, wouldn't want you to cheat Mr. Gates.
