To all: This afternoon, I made a comment about shorting, calling it ungentlemanly and comparing shorters to vultures and worms. In fact, I really did not mean it.
Recalling the patriotic fervor against shorting Monday, I said those things to tweak and tease, and to play to a receptive audience.
I realize belatedly that my words were smug and could hurt. I retract them and apologize for my error. And I especially want to make it clear that my words were directed towards no individual; I was and still am unaware if anyone on this thread was shorting at the time.
Later, it was called to my attention by a lurker today that my words stung, so I can't even claim the realization of my mistake as my own. But in retrospect, the lurker was correct.
I'll be more carefull. If I caused any others pain, I apologize.
Amid all the anger and misery of the past 10 days, and despite my convictions about the proper response to murdering thugs, I see a coarseness creeping into my character and words that I don't like. I can't get the old me back. I'll try to refrain from becoming someone new that causes pain.
And I ask you who read this, please, do not reply with a post or PM. Let my meaning stand: I blew it and I'm sorry for causing anyone pain. |
