I've made the changes to my Swap File settings recommended by people on this thread last spring. Although the suggestions ran against the prevailing opinion, the logic behind them seemed sound. After a trouble free half-year, I'm pleased with the results.

The core of the discussion was that swap file size should be inversely proportional to RAM, not correlated.

"...The tradition of setting swap file sizes to some multiple of available memory no longer made any sense. Virtual memory (Swapfile) exists only to augment insufficient real memory (RAM), and when real memory expands, the need for virtual memory shrinks..."

My experience has been that when the advice on SI Computer Learning disagrees with the generally accepted practices, adopting the recommendations on CL is the better choice in almost every case.
