Thanks for a very thoughtful piece. It makes sense that Pakistan's leaders would have to sell co-operation to their public as they are in a tough position right now.

By the way, a very good friend of my sister's is married to a Palestinian. They live in Minnesota and are about as moderate as it gets. Yesterday the FBI came by for an "interview." Every time they use the phone they hear clicks. They are very placid about this heightened scrutiny after last week Tuesday, even though in a perfect scenario this would not be going down but there you are. I told her to tell her friend, next time you call early in the am say, "Hello and good morning, FBI, I am now calling my mother-in-law. Please feel free to cut off communications at any time for any reason whatsoever."
