There's an interesting bit of trivia associated with the battle of Lepanto..

1.) It was where Miguel Cervantes (Don Quioxte) suffered 3 bullet wounds and suffered 5 years of Turkish captivity:

2.) And the preparations for the battle has been blamed for the deforestation of much of the Mediterranean region.

"In the 1571 Battle of Lepanto, in which the
combined vessels of Christian Europe repulsed the Turks, an
estimated quarter of a million trees had to be felled to
construct the 500 plus vessels which took part in that epic
battle. There are literally no more forests of any size in any accessible part of the Mediterranean.'


I remember reading about the massive deforestation caused by the intense naval building program on both sides, that resulted in the Battle Lepanto...

And I found the link above that quantified the actual number of trees (tall ones) that had to be harvested just for that one battle alone.
