Just yesterday in Chicago I was crossing the street and heard a crash. Looked over to see a new Mercedes SUV that had broadsided a newer VW. Was unclear who was at fault and was slow speed hit (SUV turning right at a light, VW turning from oncoming lane into that one way street) yet a LOT of damage to VW passenger side of car, crushed in whole side pretty good. Luckily there were only drivers for each auto, no passengers.

As I watched, the two drivers got out and immediately shook hands, with soft words spoken, seemingly of mutual apology. The SUV driver looked Indian or 'Arab' and the VW driver like a 30- something 'white' guy.

The accident was fully stupid/avoidable and normally of the type that enrages the participants, esp. in Chicago ;-)

Take whatever lessons this brings, I did.
