A tip of the hat to Senator Christopher Dodd (CT?) for his questions to Greenspan and O'Neill today. He made the point that a bunch of the airlines were wobbly before the WTC bombings, so let's be careful with the bailout.

His second point was that he is getting letters from constituents who have airport-shuttle service, and their business is off as well. Do we bail them out as well? How about restaurants near the airport? If we do, we have to give a lot of thought of where we draw the line; if we don't, then why are we bailing out only poorly-run businesses?

O'Neill pretty much ignored the substance of the question/suggestion and reiterated that "we need to get the airlines back to full strength ASAP!" or something like that.

(Are those hearings still going on? Is there any speaker more maddeningly boring than the new SEC guy? Facial expressions for emphasis are either all wrong or forced at the wrong time, word emphasis is more or less random, extreme monotone. I was thinking I'd rather listen to Greenspan read the back of a rental-car agreement.)
