It wasn't backpedalling, as far as I am concerned. It was trying to explain something to someone who doesn't think about things the way I do. And who might jump to take offense, where none was intended.
Feel free to compare me to Stalin, I don't mind. I just think it is a very inapt comparison. Men of faith, on the other hand, have a lot in common. They are not looking only to this world. They have their eyes set on the next, they can say "God will balance it out" and they can BELIEVE that. Gives them more latitude, imo.
Greg is sure he has the right God. Just as Osama is. And right now, OBL has more proof that God is on his side. he can say to his followers "Allah helped us knock down the WTC". And his followers will surely believe him. When (if) we get OBL some in this country will say "God is on our side, he helped us catch OBL". Those people- on both sides, have a lot more in common with each other, than they have with me. That' s all I am saying, and I'll stick with that, for it appears to be as close to truth as I can get. |
