Greg has made it very clear at other SI venues that his theology outweighs his logical understanding of the way things work. Go ahead and ask him : "If there was absolute proof that the Christian theology was the result of intentional forgery, would he change his beliefs?" Greg, you want to field this?

I agree that religion because it is based upon faith and not objective evidence can motivate people to do things that appear irrational. That isn't to say it isn't internally consistent. Bin Laden is internally consistent in his statements and his claims (many of which are factually correct). It is the interpretation of these facts that causes the wrong conclusions and actions (from our POV). But that is JUST from our POV.
