bill c. [chat] Plus some old and wise posts
Bill sorry to jump down your throat on BT doing DMT, and your right when you said "Both of us were on this thread in the Jan96 time frame"
Though I believe you did not make a post until Apr. 2, 96, and only 4 posts up until June. I'm sure you were following though.
There were a few great posters back then.. I wish fibonacci would drop a post now and then. I still have no idea who that Masked Man is, but he sure knew his stuff, and offered some great info. Here's 3 of his posts which still comes in handy today!

Gary, pure xDSL players all doing well, no loosers yet.
I find it interesting that the pure xDSL players are not succeeding at the expense of one another. This technology is fresh enough that the older CAP companies can ride the short term xDSL expectations.
However, I feel that the technology is still in its infancy and that the Amati DMT line code will display a significant advantage over the CAP technology with respect to external line noise abatement; after all it was selected as the ANSI Standard.
As always, management and marketing will also be a deciding factor in their success from a stockholders perspective. I must say that my desire for Amati generated marketing hype has at times been strong, especially at its trading lows, but I will take technical honesty rather than the many unfounded claims that we'll see in the coming year. Amati looks like a class act planning on marketing technical know how, not hype.
Motorola looks real good at the current price, but that MOT/AMTX chip set would have to be a run away world hit for it to raise the MOT stock price.

Lucas: the manufacturing issues are trival once you have the chip set.
We must be careful not to compare apples and oranges when discussing one company technology to another and the relative risk associated with production.
I would say that 95% of the manufacturing risk and complexity associated with the ADSL companies are in the chip sets. Motorola certainly has capabilities in that area.
As far as packaging the product (what you seem to be focused on), that can be cheaply and quickly accomplished by Contract Manufactures in the US or off shore.
As far as marketing savvy to win contracts with the RBOCs take a look at the employment histories of the top executive officers.
One more quick point, since you are interested in playing the WSTL stock and you have read the 10-Q, did you notice the provision that Standford will provide resource to prosecute DMT patent infringments?
Just a thought for you to sleep on before you make that expensive WSTL plunge.
