I didn't think anyone remembered Asner's sudden disappearance from the fickle light of television. The Smothers Brothers also, in 1968, disappeared like they were never there. Political humor is incredibly difficult. Hope and Rogers were masters because, unlike Maher, they were Americans first.

The next time Carlin faces a camera and calls Bush a "moron", he will feel the nation's wrath too, as well he should...
