we should reexamine our policy of interventionism and we should extricate ourselves from wars that are not ours to fight, and that we cannot win or solve. obviously i am paraphrasing him but you get the idea.

You fail to add that he then lists a long list of theaters of operation that, according to him, are not ours to fight including some as ridiculous as oil-rich middle east.

This is a standard trap of demagogues: First they have you agree to something perfectly sensible such as "one should throw out garbage regularly". Of course all rational people agree to that. Once such agreement is obtained they go on to define garbage as, say, immigrants or pornography or music that is not to their liking. Then when you object to that they say with a dovish tone "but I thought you were against garbage!"

Ditto with Pat. America should not fight wars that have no bearing on her. Duh!! We can all agree to that. But under Pat's definition fighting Hitler had no bearing on America (I'm not making this up. He wrote an entire book about it). That is where the trap is, and people not trained to sniff such chicanery can easily fall for it.
