Ummmm, I disagree with:

You know perfectly well that all Christians are not taught to respect different beliefs.

I was brought up in the UCC (Congregationalist) ChUrch. Our church saw the Bible as an important but flawed historical document (flawed meaning that generations of scribes' notes in margins were incorporated as scripture), took the Virgin birth as metaphorical (Mary and Joseph were engaged, which was a very different oath back then) and, more to your point, were taught that our beliefs and holy documents were derived, deeply, from Judaism. We were taught that there is one God, but that S/he( we are gender-neutral) is depicted very differently by different people at different times, the difference between the Yahweh of the Old Testament and the Father of the New Testament being a prime example.

I'm saying these things to make the point that some, and probably few, Christian sects are based on tolerance. I am not putting this out to argue my beliefs. I am holding onto them very closely these days.
