You make a great point -

Germany was "allowed" to "get away with it" until it was too late and then we were forced into an ugly war. We could have "cut Hitler off" early on with just the right amount of diplomacy and saber-rattling (they had no real military power to fight back in 1934-5).

I think we're guilty of the same thing and unfortunately we're going to have an ugly war. I still don't see why I should be happy about this or stand up and cheer about it.

Still the parallel between these terrorists and Germany's 3rd Reich is a thin one. Here, the enemy isn't so well defined to strike. We're going to have a tougher time "winning this war".
