Open Text backs document management API
By Jim Kerstetter

ODMA has another backer in Open Text Corp. The Waterloo, Ontario, company said on Thursday its Livelink Intranet document management software will support Version 2.0 of the Open Document Management API, opening the system to Microsoft Corp.'s Word or Lotus Development Corp.'s Word Pro and other ODMA-compliant applications.

In addition, ODMA extensions for intranets will allow Open Text users to access ODMA-compliant systems through browsers on an intranet or the Web. Open Text said it will support the ODMA extensions in its next release, due by the end of the year. Other document management vendors, including Documentum Inc. and FileNet Corp., have also promised to support the new ODMA standard.

Open Text is at opentext.com.
