The extremely mean-spirited Alan Dershowitz, the leftist Harvard law professor, roundly criticized Bush's choice of PA Governor Tom Ridge as head of the new homeland defense office. Dershowitz denounced Ridge as a right wing Republican who won't respect civil liberties, and lamented that Bush should have named a security expert to the post.

Odd, it would seem that a popular and respected state governor will be more sensitive to political and human rights issues than a narrow-minded security specialist. I haven't noticed Pennsylvania citizens proclaiming that their state government is totalitarian. Dershowitz was, of course, also critical of Bush and several Bush cabinet nominees, who it appears to date have done a good job. He also criticized the Supreme Court decision in Bush v. Gore, and of course is remembered for his role on OJ's defense team. It seems Dershowitz doesn't miss a chance to criticize Bush, even when it appears the rest of the country is supportive.
