Also, as long as it's Microsoft we are talking about, let me just add that I don't recall them saying they were going to make open standards the core of their philosophy, ever. And all the big Microsoft boosters on this thread have this ting about "proprietary lock," the maintenance of which, if I am not mistaken, is the reason why Microsoft refuses to turn Windows over to a standards body. The last time I so much as breathed a suggestion that Microsoft do so (thereby, in effect, adopting open standards) I got my a-- flamed by, I think it was Alan Buckley. So please don't hold your breath waiting for Microsoft to adopt open standards as thier core philosophy (co-opt, yes, but adopt, no) or, for that matter, to "get" the internet. |
