The Motorola patent covers 27 configurations of various plastics and one electrode chemistry. It doesn't automatically squelch a deal between Valence and Motorola. Motorola and Valence both state that they walked away from their previous deal because the specifications were not met. Does this Motorola battery meet the specifications? There is no way to tell from the patent text. The patent just protects Motorola to make this battery. It may be lousy battery, but I doubt that they would patent it if it was. It may have some particular advantage that someone may want to license. It does indicate that Motorola is interested in plastic batteries, and I would guess just about every other electronics manufacturer in the world.

If you buy MOT stock because of this battery, what amount of MOT stock appreciation will you attribute to this battery? Would MOT get into the commercial battery business or would they provide their own battery for their own products?

Let's try to find out what MOT is going to do with this patent and report back here.
