I am not sure what it was about my post that so got to you.

I don't think that anyone can reasonably argue that the attack has not had a negative impact on the economy and our sense of security. I also said that this was a short term impact.

I am more than a little troubled by the potential for upheaval in regimes in the Middle East and Pakistan and the resultant impact on the security of the US. Several of the so-called moderate regimes in that region have strong fundamentalist movements and those factions will capitalize on US military action - we are already seeing this occur in Pakistan. Getting the Taliban out of Afghanistan and at the same time creating the environment for similar regimes in other countries is hardly a winning proposition for the US.

But what has me more troubled than anything else is the back-lash against Muslims in the US. I complimented another SI member -in a pm - recently about his posts urging tolerance. He encouraged me to post in public similar sentiments. Having worked and socialized with Muslims, to equate the actions of a small group of zealots as representative of members of that faith is deeply troubling to me. This type of stereo-typing would be the worst kind of legacy of this attack.

In the meantime, life goes on. I am semi-retired and well diversified and fortunately don't have to be concerned about an economic down-turn in terms of maintaining my life-style. In time, I fully expect to add to my stock holdings because I have no doubt that in the long run the economy of the US will rebound.

I wish you well.
