Wednesday night, I took my family to one of NYC's best and most popular restaurants, to celebrate my daughter's birthday/ engagement. Normally, it is at capacity; this time, it was at best half full, and when we left at 10:30, we essentially closed it down.

Somewhat odder, and perhaps more ominous, today, I went to pick up a salad for lunch at a largish spot in midtown (east 50s) that usually, at 1 PM when I came in, has long take-out lines, even in the summer. Today, there was no wait.
