as i said, in that sense, not fungible at all. gold, when pure, is always the same. look at a Rappaport price list for diamonds, there are numerous different qualities (size, purity and color determine the classification)that have huge price differentials.
you could perhaps set a standard by using only 1 ct. WWS stones of color A, but what for? the market looks toward gold to determine in/deflationary pressures, not diamonds. you'd have to eradicate 5,000 years of monetary history at a stroke.
