Excuse me George... But the Clancy interview related to several of his books where he detailed the use of aircraft as flying bombs...

And given that this thread is about a discussion of Foreign Affairs, and more recently how acts of terrorism impact those affairs, I find the posts COMPLETELY topical.

As for the KLA... they were no more a bunch of "thugs" than were the Serbians who propped up Milosevic (Arkan.. etc).. All of those people are involved in one form of criminal enterprise or another because that's what they have to do to make a living, given the lack of more honest work (not making the claim that any of them would "go straight if given the choice)..

Iran is on the state terrorism list, but we're seeing Britain paving the way for a reapproachment between Tehran and Washington in coming weeks. Why? Because Iran realizes that they very well could see a Pakistani government fall to the extremists, who would then control nuclear weapons.

And since the Taleban receive considerable support from the Saudi Wahhabis sect, we're looking for some leverage against any Saudi backsliding (unleashing Iran against Iraq and the other Arab states)..

Alliances, temporary and selfish as they may be, are being cultivated and formed and the balance of power reshaped in the entire region.

Nations don't have friends.. they have interests.. And right now, both the US and Iran have a mutual interest in disrupting the onset of radical Sunni and Wahhabi Islamic beliefs from overrunning the region.

And Iran especially has no desire to give India or China an invitation to intervene in the region.
