". I have this feeling people will for go vacations and other high cost forms of entertainment and buy "consumer goods" for use in their home towns."

I left an important word "not" out of there. Typical for me<G>

this year I am going to go "sentimental" and buy jewelry (keep in mind that I just made that up). But that could very well be a good marketing approach and it just might work.

It may very well work. People are more emotional in the US than is their norm at least for now.

How about a special ebay promotion for people in the military who are far from their loved ones? <vbg>.

This not too far off what we may do if off at all. There was a customer once on an aircraft carrier that bought from us around Valentine's Day and had us ship to his girfriend (maybe wife I do not ask those questions) and he was pleased. Next thing I knew we had about twenty different orders from men stationed on that ship. They get internet time about every 48 hours I found out. This is where on-line shopping does really work. They had no where to shop since they were not headed for a port in the near future.
