Disasters and Wars:
The history of disasters and wars (unless they completely devastate the country in question) is that they cause misery, fear and death, destroying wealth and property. They also, however, are at worst neutral in their effect on revenues, production and economic growth. The Great Depression occurred during peacetime. Our most intense wartime involvements this century at least, have been characterized by economic expansion. An obsession with security and fear of flying, if it is sustained, will lead to reallocation of resources and employment, not a loss of growth or employment. Its effect on demand for information technology, after some short-term disruption, is likely to be positive.
