Dent,

I was thinking more in terms of airline liability. Specifically, liability based upon the fact that there were NO SAFETY PRECAUTIONS in place to prevent what occurred. The airlines WERE WELL AWARE of the potential dangers and decided to ignore the warnings. No different than an automaker who knows that a $25.00 part will save lives but decides not to incorporate it. What is ironic is that in the final analysis it would have cost the airlines only a fraction of what it will cost them (and the government-since the feds have decided to pick up a part of the tab-) to put in place the necessary measures. Greed and Profit always seem to be the controlling motivations.
