If I remember correctly, the call to develop an alternative to the gasoline automobile engine was heard loud and clear in the early '70s -- when I used to carry a couple of gas cans in the trunk of my '66 Dodge Coronet because finding an open gas station on a Sunday afternoon was sometimes difficult. So that's seven different presidents that have had this problem on their radar screen at one time or another.

So why haven't we done anything in 30-plus years? Because with oil selling at around $15 a barrel, it wasn't worth worth our time economically to develop a car that runs on soybeans.

Now it is.
