Again: "If US arms production were to be shut down today, you don't think the Chinese or Russians or Europeans would, within six months, have taken up slack? Or sooner? Do you think we are forcing the terrorists to take those arms at GUNPOINT?
Are you claiming the US arms industry CAUSES terrorism? "
I think there's some reality in that that you don't want to deal with.
You know this problem has a history as long as man: Genghis Khan, the Huns, the Visigoths, the Vandals, the Vikings, ...... The list goes goes on and on. It didn't just suddenly start in 1776. Or 1917.
And if, say, Iran and Iraq could not have gotten weapons from the West, do you honestly believe they would not have fought and slaughtered each other anyway? Wars and massacres didn't start with the M-1 tank.
You seem to be trying to blame terrorism entirely on the West. Is it the West that tells these "martyrs" that "holy war" is sanctioned by the Koran and they will get 70 virgins in Paradise?
Sometimes we even provide the weapons pro bono, if we have some rationale [or rationalization] for it. Again: I thought the Afghanis wanted very much too throw out their atheistic Soviet oppressors. Would it have been better to leave the Communists in possession of Afghanistan? |
