I bought into this company at around 16.45 on That Monday, September 17, when the market began the slow painful slide in reaction to the new world we live in. It seems like an unlikely play on defense, but there are a number of things to consider.

Apple Computer (NASDAQ: AAPL) has a much more secure operating system than any of the Windows versions. The virus problem is virtually non-existent. With the introduction of OS X, they are primed to finally move into markets where they have ostensibly been weak.

And there are the stories:

A Creative Approach To Security - Brad Cook

Recording in The Outback - Stephanie Jorgl

Neighborhood Nerve Center - Sam McMillan

Xtreme Coverage - Stephanie Jorgl

AirPort: Gateway to a Wireless World - Diane Cohn

It seems obvious to me that this technology company will play a big role in the coverage of events in the remote areas of the world where the news is being generated. While that in itself will not drive the stock, future recognition of the video versatility and remote connectivity of the PowerBooks will drive sales.

At the heart of their advantage over the Wintel competition is their low power consuming, yet very fast G3 and G4 processors and the built-in AirPort wireless capability. The G3s and G4s give them long battery life without having to resort to down clocking when disconnected from the power grid. And, AirPort gives them ethernet connectivity without wires to other computers and the Internet.

I have liked this company for a long time, so it's easy to say that I'm a bit biased. But, I'm not blind. I use Windows PCs and I use Apple's Macintosh.

JMHO - It would be a mistake to sell this company short at these levels, so why not go long. So, I did.
