There's something else I wanted to get off my chest-not really fully thought out, but it keeps nagging at the back of my mind. In world War II, this country REALLY believed it was at war and did what it had to do. Factories were re-tooled, some goods and services weren't available, rationing, war bonds, all manner of things happened so that the full abilities of this country could be brought to bear on the problem threatening the free worlds existence. It strikes me that our dependence on OIL is the one thing that allows the middle east leverage. It also seems that EVENTUALLY, we are going to have to wean ourselves from this dependence and find other ways of doing things. During the oil embargo of the 70's, we made a start in that direction, but backed off. I have seen the U.S. put a man on the moon. I believe we could develope alternative energy sources by a concerted enough effort to effectively put our middle eastern friends back in the nomadic tribe business. Why not now? I have observed that people don't change unless they have no other choice. Maybe this situation forces us to change. One of my favorite sayings is that the best revenge is leading a good (as in happy, prosperous, self-fulfilled) life. We should give this a try, and screw the middle east. Isolate them and let them kill each other. That's what they want to do anyway.
Sorry this is disjointed-it's late-and I'm really beginning to get pissed off.
