I don't need to, he already knows. The North could not survive economically without the South. So, he attacked. Obviously, religion was not a factor, unless the Bible suddenly reversed its stance on slavery in 1860.

The interpretation of the bible and the koran change all the time. That is what causes wars. Someone has a vision and you get a new war.
