Caspian oil reserves are estimated to be as high those of Saudi Arabia. Not trivial. They are newly discovered and lie in Kazakhstan. The whole problem is getting it out of it's landlocked geography. Iran and Turkey want royalties in transporting it through their countries. Bored? Don't be. It is the key to an alliance with Russia. The Russians already have built a pipeline for transport... Oh why bother. BTW I hear the former Russian "stans" maybe used as staging areas for the USAF. Naaaaaaaaah that's impossible.
