Stuart, Cow, Junk - Thank you for your prompt replies.

After a few stabs at your suggestions, I am pleased to report that my GMC 2500 pickup backed over the HP Scanner out in the driveway at about 7:10 AM EDT. I was swayed by Junk's suggestion.

And so I have been set free and a glorious adventure now lies before me.

I shall repair to Staples or Best Buy and support the economy by buying the best damned scanner they have. And I shall make the pimple faced kid that sells it to me guarantee with his life, his car, and all that he treasures, that it will work.

PS: Later today, after NASCAR, the Jets v. Patriots, and a few J & Bs, I fear a similar fate awaits the Cannon scanner that never worked for the Mac downstairs.
