Readers of this thread should consider this, too: COLDS. Summer ended on Saturday, and our immune systems are now much more vulnerable to the more than 200 viruses that cause the common cold. As we move indoors with falling temperatures, our defenses are down!

There is good reason for alarm: Over the course of a year, Americans suffer from more than 1 billion colds!!! Who's most at risk? Our children!!! They can suffer as many as 12 colds a year.

Readers of this thread should be aware that the economic consequences of colds can be ENORMOUS. The National Center for Health Statistics has reported that "in 1996, colds caused 45 million days of restricted activity and 22 million days lost from school." In fact, colds are a leading cause -- yes, A LEADING CAUSE!!! -- of doctor visits and of school and job absenteeism.

Among those 200 viruses I mentioned are some that can cause SEVERE lower respiratory infections in children! Colds can also lead to secondary bacterial infections.

I ask all of you: WHAT DO WE DO NOW?!
