Stan,
It strikes me that we missed putting the pieces together by a few days in order to thwart the attack. Pro tech government spending could lead to a massive upgrade of government computer system and software. Other areas that i have heard mentioned is government mandated computers and internet centers in all public schools financed by Uncle Sam. We have entered a new era. Wise government spending without bureacratic entanglements(oxymoron--i hope not) are key now to our survival. If tech doesnt lead the way back there may be no way back.
Of course none of the above means we should not deal with the short term impact of the attack for airlines et al., unemployed folks, health care etc. Conservatives have to make a U Turn dictated by history. Important point is not to eschew government spending but to make it effective. mike
