these were my assumptions until a short while ago, now overtaken by greater issues

I see your point Jay. I have been thinking about it and reading through the headlines you provided earlier today.

It gives me the impression that there are so many things that could go wrong, and I mean seriously wrong, it feels we are already walking through a land mines field.

After what I witnessed live on TV on Sept 11, I cannot rule any of your scenarios or worse.

Something comes to mind... No doubt with the lifting of sanctions to both India and Pakistan, the old feuds amongst those two will be easily re-ignited and at any moment in time a more expanded battle field will be in our hands.

I am wondering too... if the members of the former Soviet Red Army will take the opportunity to take revenge on the Afghans under the cover of assisting the US in the fight against terrorism. Who knows what different factions would choose to retaliate and in what form. Easily blamed on the US...

After all... we are not dealing with the sisters of charity here.

I guess at this point in time there is not much sense in worrying excessively I suppose. That leads to inaction, so meanwhile, we will do the best we can. Enjoy life, try to act smartly in the investing arena and be optimistic while keeping a sharp eye on our hard reality. Bora Bora sure sounds nice though -g-

As for the more "benign" considerations of price gouging by the state oil monopolies... Yes, the corruption within those companies are legendary... for example, PEMEX is thought of the largest employment agency in Mexico (unofficially of course). Accordingly, the insider "job-broker" will be ready to charge insane "fees" (and produce more uncalled for jobs to get the fees from the millions of prospects), in spite of the promises of the higher-ups to make the state owned oil companies "more efficient".

Result ? An incredibly inefficient bureaucracy funded by higher oil revenues.

looks like we will then have to consider KastelCo's Canadian sands.

Yes, it appears so.

The best to you and your family.
