Bill, Re: "Most of the time Intel makes good products and good decisions, most of the time. Same for AMD. We are at a historic period where Intel has made a number of bad decisions that have been coupled with good AMD decisions. Thus the mighty fall."

Like I've said before, 2000 was a lousy year for Intel in terms of execution. Can you still come up with the same number of failures this year? How about AMD's inability to execute this year? AMD's inability to get Palomino past 1.2GHz has certainly allowed Intel to "catch up", so to speak. AMD's lack of major design wins have allowed Intel to keep corporate market share. AMD's inability to market their processors have allowed Intel to stop AMD's climb in market share (and perhaps lose some market share this quarter). Yet this year, Intel has *finally* launched Itanium (and at least fp performance is very good). Intel has launched Pentium 4 up to 2GHz. Intel has launched Tualatin and their .13u process. And at least some analysts believe that they are selling well (and Intel confirmed that July and August sold above expectations, given the recession). It sounds like Intel is executing better and AMD has executed worse. But let's see if Intel can execute on Hyperthreading and Northwood, while AMD executes on their .13u process, SOI, and Hammer. The better execution in 2002 may be a deciding factor.
