I would not be very surprised to see a fundamentalist coup there if the current government is too helpful to the U.S. What do you think?

I think so, too.

I think the extremists want the U.S. out so that Saudi Arabia will not only be no longer "contaminated" but will be easy for them to overwhelm and control.

From debka.com, I understand Saudi Arabia is not supporting the Bush campaign and that Crown Prince Abdullah, his family and a large entourage have departed apparently for the safety of Geneva. Not a good sign as Bush is now forced back to the drawing board!

As for oil going to $100? Likely to happen if the extremists have their way. Quite possibly it may be of short duration.

To be sure, the West now has trememdous impetus to develop technology that would make it less and less dependent on oil.

As for condemnation of Saudi Arabia as a hotbed of terrorism, it did not happen in the past because the U.S. did not wish to offend that country, IMO. But I think that is going to change and I hope things will not deteriorate to the point where Arabs in the country will be quarantined as the Japanese were in 1941.

By the way, a few days back, a crew refused to fly their jet liner unless their Pakistani member was removed. He was!
