One thing I can think of that animals don't do, and that is worship God.
As far a SOCAS is concerned I am glad that I am not forced to believe in the church of the cosmic force. That's why I said it was a laudable concept. What I am saying, is that how SOCAS has come to be worked out, has resulted in forcing agnosticism to be the official State Position. Now, unless you have total silence, as X suggested then any statements such as "we can't know which religion is correct", are still affirming a BELIEF. Even silence gives the message that these things are not important, which implies that it is true that religion is not important.
In Canada recently we had a state memorial service that did not mention God once, no prayer, nothing. Message, religion is not important. After a great deal of complaining, there was a hasty religious service organized that invited every faith imaginable and a couple extras just in case. The clear message is that all religions are equally unimportant. When a plane went down over Nova Scotia last year the same thing happened. Actually the clergy that were permitted to attend were forbidden from mentioning the name of Jesus. So... it seems there are two possibilities. One is for total silence, the other is for total inclusion, no matter how disparate the individual faiths are from one another. Atheism or paneverythingism. Not much of a choice really, and certainly none that meet the standard of SOCAS |
