Ah the shortsighted arrogance of the Intel perspective. AMD puts it this way: X86-64 supports Windows XP. And all the applications that Windows XP runs.

Intel demands that everyone else do a lot of difficult, risky, recoding just to get back to where they started. AMD says, "Our processors will run your software."
