Chris land, well that was very uplifting. I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish with your comments but you twisted scripture among other things.
I think we could learn much from watching the rescuers work "together" tirelessly for what will probably be a thankless cause and even our nation's politicians that are demonstrating a surprising example of how to pull together in a time of crisis and disagree if appropriate, but in a respectful manner.
Please go read the message from Billy Graham from the NY prayer service last week for a better view on how Jesus might view these events.
Since you attempted to bring scripture into this discussion, I'd like to offer the following as an encouragement to whoever may read this:
A message of hope:
"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you. Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:10-13;
and a call to action:
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgement on themselves...For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." Romans 13:1-4
I think most would agree that in spite of this tragedy, there has been much "good" that's come of this and I believe we will see more positive effects in the days and years to come. I borrowed a few examples from Charles Stanley:
1) We were burning the flag and now we're bearing it. 2) A strong sense of unity in our country and even the world. 3) Greater reverance and respect for human life. 4) People have become more important than profit. 5) A deeper sense of consciousness of God. 6) A greater sense of things eternal.
Open question (for anyone) to consider:
Suppose you had perished in this disaster. Also suppose that you have a young child and that child asked your spouse a question,
"If daddy (or mommy) died in the plane crash, what happened do him ? Where did he go ? Will I ever see him again ?"
What would be your answer ? |
